A JOSEPH HOLDCFOFT DARK-BLUE-GROUND JARDINIÈRE of shaped cylindrical form, moulded in relief with a continuous frieze of three birds in graceful flight above sprays of white lilies and overlapping leaves, the rim with a brown-glazed band of stiff leaves between yellow lines and the short foot similarly glazed in brown, with a turquoise interior (lower body and base with cracks and associated chips), impressed mark, base pierced for drainage, circa 1870
