The inscriptions comprise two Persian quatrains.

A similar depiction of an equally happily cantering bull, unencumbered by a cypress tree, is on a star tile in the David Collection, Copenhagen (Komaroff, Linda and Carboni, Stefano; The Legacy of Genghis Khan, New York, 2002, no.108, fig.113, p.100). That tile is dated 689/1290-1 in the border inscription.
