The inscripton comprises a Persian quatrain followed by a couplet from the Shahnama of Firdawsi and the date given as "in the year ... and eighty", and with the figures 680 underneath. This appears to be a unique instance of a tile of its type being dated both in letters and figures.

Two similar tiles each depict a turquoise camel; one is in a private collection, the other in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (Linda Komaroff and Stefano Carboni (eds.), The Legacy of Genghis Khan, exhibition catalogue, New York, 2002, no.118, fig.117, p.101).
