The Richard Lange model pays tribute to Richard Lange (1845-1935), eldest son of the company's founder Ferdinand Adolph Lange. Richard is said to have devoted his watchmaking career to scientific research for higher precision in watches. He is accredited with the discovery of a metal alloy for watch springs for which he was granted Patent No. 529945 in 1930.

The present Richard Lange “Referenzuhr” was introduced to the market at SIHH 2010 and pays homage to the timekeeping service of the Mathematics and Physics Salon in 19th-century Dresden. The watch is equipped with a caliber L033.1 features A. Lange & Söhne’s patented "zero-reset" mechanism simplifies the synchronization of the watch with a time signal. When the button at 2 o’clock is pushed, it automatically causes the subsidiary seconds hand to jump to the 12 o'clock or "zero" position.

Furthermore, the present watch is numbered 2 of a limited edition of only 50 examples in platinum. There were also available 75 examples in pink gold.
