A LARGE AND RARE HUANGHUALI PORTABLE RECESSED LEG TABLE, DAPINGTOUAN
Late 16th/early 17th century
Of generous proportions, the table with a single-panel top above an 'ice-plate' edge, and supported on rectangular-section legs with butterflied corners, forming two trestle units double-tendoned to the underside of the top and removable, after which the two plain aprons with cloud-shaped spandrels are foldable flat against the underside of the top by means of extended dowels sliding along sockets on the table's end pieces
33¾in. (85.6cm.) high, 82in. (208.6cm.) long, 25in. (63.5cm.) deep
