Lot Essay

After an engraving by J. Folkema inspired by a C.A. Coypel painting, this earlier version of the Spanish literary classic show several elements missing from the circa 1750 Chinese export plates, and is perhaps more European in its style of painting. See Hervouet and Bruneau, op. cit., pp.124-5.
