The movement by William Evill, Bath, late 18th century and associated, the case circa 1800
The circular brass chapter ring with black enamelled Arabic and Roman numerals with blued steel pierced strapwork hands and with a subsidiary second's dial with date aperture below, a Silent/Strike dial within arch above, with rocaille acanthus and flowerhead spandrels to the corners, the two-train movement with anchor escapement striking the hour on a bell, with arched front-sliding hood with glazed hinged front door between outset ring and baluster-turned collonettes, the overhanging broken swan's neck pediment terminating in gilt paterae centered by a brass finial, the case with canted angles and a cut-cornered ebonized panelled hinged door over an out stepped plinth base with similar cut-cornered panelling, on later long bracket feet, inscribed in black ink 460
