A Louis Philippe bronze and gilt-bronze automaton timepiece
the silvered dial within hexagonal frame with scrolling foliate cresting and apron, above mirrored backplate modelled as a mantelpiece, on stepped rectangular base mounted with opposing winged sphinxes, their mouths issuing spiral glass rods simulating water into an oval basin, on block feet, the Roman dial with gilt-bronze flowerhead cast mount to the centre and black-painted hands, the single barrel movement with silk suspension and stamped on the backplate for ROBERT A PARIS, with automaton movement to the base -- 17in. (43cm.) high
