the case of typical form, decorated overall with panels of incised foliate cut brass inlay on an ebony carcase, with railed frieze to the bell top with elongated flambeau urn finials (one lacking), with stop-fluted gilt-bronze Corinthian pilasters, flanking an arched glazed door with guilloche frame, with arched glazed panels to the sides, on inverted breakfront base with wavy apron and on bun feet, the gilt-brass dial with incised scrolling foliate spandrels and centre, with female mask mount within scrolls below, the twin going barrel movement with anchor escapement and countwheel strike on bell above, French, 19th century -- 18¾in.(47.5cm.) high
