Lot Essay

This tapestry series was first woven at the Gobelins workshops after designs by Michelle Corneille (d. 1664). It is believed that Evrard Jabach, an art collector, commissioned the Marche workshops in Aubusson and Felletin to copy the series. The Musee du Petit Palais, Paris has two tapestries from this series, depicting La Danse and Le Saute-Mouton, that are signed by the ateliers of Vallenet and Maingonnat, respectively.
