The shaped rectangular top above a bombé case fitted with two drawers carved with floral sprays, cartouches and foliate scrolls, the sides carved with panels and guttae above a deep pierced apron carved with shell, C-scrolls and scrolling foliage on acanthus-carved cabriole legs ending in scrolled toes

The richly carved rocailles and distinctively undulating profile of this commode are typical of the work of the cabinet-makers of Provence. Two commodes sharing many of the same characteristics, attributed to Nîmes and Avignon, are illustrated in M-J. Beaumelle et al., Les Arts Décoratifs en Provence, Aix-en-Provence, 1993, p. 52, figs. 44-5.
