Lot Essay

This elegant console brings to mind the advanced neo-classical designs of Jean-François de Neufforge. A particularly similar model with a mask of Apollo to the center of the frieze, and with tapering fluted legs joined by a flat stretcher with entrelac carving to the top surface, is illustrated in C. Packer, French Furniture by the Master Èbènistes, Newport, 1956, fig. 97.
