Lot Essay

The strong neoclassic lines and drapery mounts on the offered lot reflect the later work of Roger Vandercruse and illustrate the influence of his brother-in-law Jean-François Oeben (maître in 1761) and the gout grêc. Vandercruse is particularly noted for his use of bois citronnier most especially as a ground for small marquetry tables of the 1770's.
