In the manner of Bernard Molitor
Inlaid with ebony and brass lines, the oval grey bardiglio marble top with pierced balustraded gallery above a panelled frieze with two spring-loaded drawers to each end, with locking mechanism beneath, on brass fluted entasised columnar legs joined by an oval undertier with corresponding gallery, and on tapering toupie feet

Lot Essay

With its dependence on the rich figuring of the mahogany and simple ormolu mouldings, together with tamed lion's-mask ring handles, this gueridon table is designed in the restrained 'Etruscan' style of the 1790's. In character, it resembles the documented oeuvre of Bernard Molitor, who is known to have supplied similarly restrained furniture with lion-mask ring-pull handles (U. Leben, B. Molitor, London, 1992, p.180, no.19, p.193, fig.85 and p.197, fig.99).
