With its characteristic lozenge parquetry, this commode belongs to a distinctive group of furniture stamped by or attributed to the ébéniste Jacques-Laurent Cosson (maître in 1765), of which several were retailed by the marchand-ébéniste Lonard Boudin (P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Français du XVIIIme Siécle, Paris, 1989, p. 92). These include a pair of commodes stamped by Cosson, sold anonymously in Paris, Galerie Charpentier, 8 December 1954, lot 165; another, sold from the collection of Mrs. V.M.J. Wilson in these Rooms, 12 April 1973, lot 72; and another, sold anonymously at Sotheby's New York, 4 November 1989, lot 253.
