Early 16th Century, probably German
Entirely of iron, with large head of six cusped flanges (one replaced, one slightly damaged) each with a reinforced central point, separate spiked finial (replaced), octagonal haft widening into a grip of circular section spirally decorated with slender triple ribs set alternately with single herring-bone ribs, with similarly decorated mouldings at each end, and domed pommel, and mounted with a later lanyard ring
