CIRCA 1882 14K ROSE GOLD BADGE BELONGING TO MARSHAL JOHN "JACK" GILLAN. GILLAN SERVED AS MARSHAL OF PUEBLO, COLORADO FROM OCTOBER 1882 TO DECEMBER 1885. THE BADGE WAS PRESENTED TO HIM BY SIX MEN WHOS NAMES ARE INSCRIBED ON THE BADGE, F. HOWARD, JOHN HILDRETH, E.L. YOUNG, JAMES CANNING, W, BEMIS AND GEO. HEROLD. E.L. YOUNG, AND W. BEMIS WERE MARSHAL GILLAN'S DEPUTYS. F. HOWARD, JOHN HILDRETH, AND GEO. HERALD BECAME DETECTIVES WHEN PUEBLO CONSOLIDATED THE POLICE DEPARTMENT IN 1886. COPIES OF THE DAILY CHIEFTAN WITH INFORMATION ABOUT GILLAN ACCOMPANY THIS LOT. DIAMETER: 1.7/8 IN. (4.6 CM.)

MARSHAL GILLAN DIED IN 1917 LEAVING HIS ESTATE TO HIS DAUGHTER WHO AUCTIONED THE PROPERTY IN 1967.
