LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARK, INCISED MARK BELOW, PROBABLY OUTSIDE-DECORATED, INCISED A.80., IMPRESSED 70 AND 28, PAINTED 12.
The rockwork base surmounted by a winged nymph blowing a horn among the clouds, modelled to one side with Saturn holding an oval tablet featuring the likeness of Augustus the Strong, patron of Meissen, a nymph emblematic of wind standing on a globe to the other side, a putto seated by a rocaille shield bearing the Electors arms at their feet

Lot Essay

Originally conceived by Kändler on the name day of Prince Xavier, this model literally trumpets (see figure in clouds at top) the glories of the house of Saxony. The Prince and several members of the royal house actually attended its modelling and his spouse ordered that the tablet held by Father Time (Saturn) bear the inscription 'the 3rd December 1765, the name day of his Royal Highness the Regent has been celebrated at the Meissen China Factory'.
