The cover stippled with a portrait of Empress Elizabeth of Russia in a powdered wig, ermine robes, a blue sash and wearing the badge of the Order of St. Andrew the First Called, the sides reserved with elongated quatrefoil gilt-edged panels enclosing estuary scenes with buildings, figures and boats, the underside with an extensive scene of figures at discussion before a palace by a river below a crowned double-headed eagle and the badge of the Order of St. Andrew the First Called, the interior of the cover painted with a related scene with figures before a palace, the box interior richly gilt (underside and lower part with areas of wear, front right-hand corner with crack around area adjacent to rim and with small associated loss, very slight wear to moulded cartouche on cover)
