A modern German 18ct. gold thimble
MARK OF THORWALD GREIF, CIRCA 1992
Made to commemorate the discovery of the New World by Columbus in 1492, the sides chased in relief with a depiction of the ship Santa Maria and the dates, "1492-1992" -- 1 in. (2.5 cm.); a further Greif gold thimble, the border with applied flowerheads centred with split pearls -- 1 in. (2.5 cm.); and a further silver thimble lacquered to resemble the American flag, with zirconium set stars -- 1 in. (2.5 cm.) (3)
