A Mughal ivory gemset hilt
17th Century
carved in the form of a horses head, the mouth slightly open with the features naturalistically defined, the platted mane draped down one side of the neck with red and green gems inset in gold settings to the back and forehead, the base carved with scrolling flowers and folaige below a band of lappets, the ivory with a warm golden patina -- 5 3/8in. (13.7cm.) long, (chip to ear, losses to gems).
