Lot Essay

A coffee-can and saucer with related decoration is illustrated by Angela Caròla-Perrotti, Le Porcellane Dei Borbone Di Napoli, Capodimonte e Real Fabbrica Ferdinandea 1743-1806 (Naples, 1986), p. 422, no. 347. The border of the saucer has similar oval Antique panels dividing rectangular panels and the centre is painted with a scene possibly derived from an engraving of a Roman wall painting discovered at Herculaneum.
