Lot Essay

The model for this centre-piece was first exhibited at the 1867 Paris Exposition Universelle, and was silver-gilt. It is reproduced in the Art Journal's Illustrated Catalogue, p.111, where it is said that Odiot's productions are of the highest order of Art; they are, indeed, works of sculpture, and eminent sculptors have supplied the models, and the centre-piece described as a Corbeille for flowers, to occupy the centre of a table - a most charming production; the figures and ornamentation are beautifully modelled. It is obviously the work of a true artist. The tazzas were designed by Edouard Rcipon.
