Lot Essay

This chair was made in the Westmoreland Dales area of the North West and is a particularly original example of its type. Many chairs from this area had painted seats, but gradually these have often been replaced, whereas this example is completely intact. The elaborate turnings are more complex than the majority of turned Dales chairs, pointing to it being a superior and more expensive design.
