Lot Essay

In 1431 Luca della Robbia was commissioned to design a marble Cantoria or "Singing Gallery" over the door of the Sacristy of the Masses, also known as the New Sacristy in Florence cathedral. The present lot is a copy of one of ten panels now housed in the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo.
