Lot Essay

The Art Deco style Mayflower Hotel in Akron, Ohio was opened on May 18, 1931. Designed by the Chicago architectural firm of Graham, Anderson, Probst and White, the 16-story, 450-room hotel entertained guests such as Cary Grant, Fred Astaire, Katherine Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart, Eleanor Roosevelt and Shirley Temple. The hotel closed in 1971, at which point the interiors such as these panels, which were likely mounted on elevator doors, must have been salvaged.
