A PAIR OF CUT-GLASS AND ORMOLU TWO-LIGHT CANDELABRA

Each with an Apollo mask sun-burst above a pendant-hung canopy and a hobnail-cut baluster column with a pair of branches, each with a pendant-hung drip-pan with removable liner, and hobnail-cut turned nozzle, on a shaped stepped base, restorations and replacements, one glass base possibly later

Lot Essay

Similar Apollo sunbursts appear on a pair of candelabrum in the collection of Rosedown Plantation and Gardens, St. Francisville, Louisiana, illustrated in H. Parrott Bacot, Nineteenth Century Lighting: Candle Powered Devices. 1783-1883, West Chester, Pennsylvania, 1987, p. 105. They also appear on an early 19th Century chandelier illustrated in M. Mortimer, The English Glass Chandelier, Woodbridge, 2000, p. 168.
