Lot Essay

The use of chestnut vases is not quite clear. They may have been used for roasted chestnuts, serving chestnut-puree or were placed on a chimney filled with sweet chestnuts (J.R. ter Molen, Zilver, Rotterdam, 1994, p. 254; A.L. den Blaauwen, Nederlands zilver 1580-1830, The Hague, 1979, p. 318).
