A Pair of Fahua Buddhistic Lions on Stands
Each spirited beast well modeled with lively expression and shown seated atop a rectangular base which fits into a waisted plinth-form base raised on cabriole legs, with an opening in one end of the hollowed waist of each stand, one with a forepaw restraining an inquisitive cub, the other with paw resting atop a beribboned brocade ball, each wearing a bell and tassel-hung collar, glazed in dark aubergine with turquoise and yellow details
13½in. (34.3cm.) high
It has been suggested that the large rectangular receptacle in each stand might be for the storage of sutras.
