A PAIR OF FRENCH SILVER-MOUNTED FLINTLOCK COAT PISTOLS
Circa 1780-90, SILVER MAKER'S MARK JC IN A LOZENGE
Each with blued swamped octagonal barrel inscribed 'Canon Tordu' in gilt letters and profusely decorated with further gold-damascened ornament involving thunderbolt motifs, plain tang with back-sight, plain rounded lock of burnished steel, figured walnut full stock carved with a bouquet in low relief behind the barrel tang, chequered butt, full silver mounts cast with rococo ornament in low relief on a 'fish-roe' ground, including spurred pommel fitted with trophy-of-arms cap, each with original moulded iron ramrod, and each retaining some original blued and damascened finish (one fore-end and small chip)
