A PAIR OF GEORGE III MAHOGANY AND SATINWOOD BOOKCASES
Altered in the 19th Century, probably from a larger bookcase
Inlaid overall with boxwood and ebonised lines, each with stepped cornice and simulated fluting with oval patera, above two geometrically-glazed doors enclosing adjustable shelves (ten and nine respectively), flanked by recessed rectangular panels, the lower section with a pair of canted rectangular panelled doors enclosing two columns each of four cedar-lined drawers, on a stepped plinth, the base of the upper section of one bookcase with remains of a paper label indistinctly inscribed in ink '...George /... one Side, Side joined', and each bookcase stamped 'GWD', one lock stamped 'GR' below a crown, five glass panes cracked, one bookcase with locked cupboard
