Oval and on four scroll feet capped with foliage scrolls and eagles, the handles cast as acanthus and scrolls, applied on either side with a cartouche, one later engraved with two crests, the other with a baron's coronet, the conforming covers with flower finials, marked underneath, inside cover and on finial

The crests are those of Cunliffe and Lister, for the Barons Masham of Swinton. The title was created for Samuel Cunliffe-Lister (1815-1906) in 1891. He acquired the Swinton estate in 1882. On his death he was succeeded by his son also called Samuel (1857-1917). His son never married and he was succeeded by the third and last Baron Swinton, his younger brother John (1867-1924). (2)
