A PAIR OF GERMAN WHEEL-LOCK OFFICER'S PISTOLS BY WOLFGANG HOCH, ARNSTAT
Circa 1640-50
With sighted barrels formed in two stages, each signed 'Wolff g Hoch Arnstat' on the octagonal breech and with brass standing back-sight, plain rounded locks retained by three side-nails each with internal wheel and sliding pan-cover (one dog, bridle and dog-spring replaced), fruitwood full stocks (one chipped at the ramrod aperture, the other with the fore-end replaced), 'fishtail' butts stamped with small inventory numbers, brass spurred pommels and brass trigger-guards each engraved with flowers and leaves, and one retaining its original iron ramrod-pipe and fore-end cap (ramrods replaced).
