Of elongated octagonal form, each facet inlaid with a lapis lazuli panel, the panels either carved with vignettes of various flowers or poems, the carved decoration highlighted in gilding, all within gilt-metal borders engraved with foliate sprays below an everted rim with outer key-fret border and diaper pattern on top, the whole raised on eight ruyi-head supports, each with a velvet-covered inner platform

Lot Essay

The inscriptions are poems attributed to the Qianlong Emperor. The poems refer to different flowers, including plum blossom, jade peach, magnolia, peony, lotus and bamboo and rocks.
