Franois Claude Menant, matre in 1786.

Menant, established in rue de Charenton, produced various types of voyeuses, including an interesting example with pierced lyre-shaped back which was offered at Drouot-Montaigne, Paris, 23 March 1998, lot 64. Menant, a skilled menuisier, died seven years after his matrise, during the revolutionary wars in the north of France. A related voyeuse by Jacob was sold from the Collection of Henry Clarke, Christie's Monaco, 20 June 1998, lot 245.
