A pair of Meissen ormolu-mounted candlesticks
The porcelain circa 1745 and with blue crossed swords marks to back of bases, the mounts 19th century
The domed feet with pierced quatrefoil ornament, the reverses applied with simulated branches surmounted by foliate nozzles, with a scantily clad Meissen putto before each branch, the first emblematic of Hope, with a turquoise cloth about his loins and holding an anchor with his left hand, the second emblematic of Love, with a puce-lined gilt-edged turquoise cloth tied about his neck and loins and holding a flaming heart in each hand, both standing before tree-stumps on circular mound bases applied with foliage (both with minute chipping, Hope's anchor restored anchor)
