Each flanked by upright handles wrapped in berried vine and with female-mask terminals issuing grapevine, finely painted front and back with panels of a maiden and putti emblematic of the elements, impressed JM to undersides of mounts

Lot Essay

Charles Labarre is also recorded as a painter at Doulton & Co. His work for Doulton, the monumental exhibition pieces 'The Dante Vase' and 'The Love Vase' were shown at the Chicago Columbian Exposition of 1893. A pair of vases also painted by Labarre and with the same ormolu mounts was sold Christie's, New York 24 October 2006, lot 208.
