The foliate candlebranches spring from triumphal trophies, with laurel and oak-wreathed weapons suspended from bow-knotted ribbons, in the Louis XVI 'antique' manner promoted by Jean-Charles Delafosse's 1768 and 1771 editions of Nouvelle iconologie historique.
