The shell-carved backs, above c-scroll supports, divided by painted armorial crests, the solid seats with gadrooned chair-rails and ring- turned tapering supports (2)

Lot Essay

A similar pair of Regency hall-chairs with Venus-shell crests were sold at Christie's King Street 30th January 1986, lot 42. It is possible that this pair with their reed-gadrooned rails were executed by William Trotter of Edinburgh.
