John Field is described in the London Directories as 'carpenter and builder' from 1817 onwards but by grander titles after 1830. The design of 6 St. James's Square for Lord Bristol is his only known design (H. Colvin, A Biographical Dictionary of British Architects, London, 1995, 3rd. ed., p. 362).
