Each enamelled and gilt at the centre with a coat-of-arms, helmet, crest and supporters between the mottoes Spero Meliora above and Fides Probata Coronat below, within a blue enamel and gilt floral scrolling foliage band in the well, and two flower sprays divided by the crest repeated twice at the border, minute rim fritting

Lot Essay

The arms are those of Sandilands, quarterly impaling Hume, Pepdie, Polwarth, and St.Clair. See D. S. Howard, op.cit., p.308
