Lot Essay

Although the present Pietà must date from some 40 to 50 years later, it is related in style to a Pietà now in the Landesmuseum in Münster (Bussman and Lorenz, loc. cit.). That piece, which was executed in the region of Mainz around 1380, was originally in the Parish Church at Unna.
