OTTOMAN, PROBABLY EASTERN EUROPEAN, 18TH CENTURY

The body rising and swelling from the foot to a vertical mouth with everted lip, the spout applied along the body until the everted dragon-head mouth, simple handle with scrolling terminals, the hinged onion-dome cover with multiple ball knop, the body worked in repoussé with oval cartouches containing stylised floral sprays, part washed in gold and silver, below a band of similar ribs, a band of engraved and pounced part gilt scrolling leafy vine around the mouth, the handle with bold leaf-motifs at the base, the cover with similar plant forms almost forming a strapwork interlace
