Oil on canvas, the bearded and mustachioed artist is depicted his head turned over his shoulder, wearing brown coat and black beret, signed in red in the lower right hand corner and dated both in English and Arabic, area of scuffing, mounted

Lot Essay

Another work by Sani al-Sultan, a portrait of Kamal al-Mulk, is in the Decorative Arts Museum in Iran (Guide to the Decorative Arts Museum of Iran, p.11). It has been suggested that the sitter is Ben Jour, a tutor at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts.
