A Queen Anne provincial silver tankard
Exeter, 1707, Britannia standard, maker's mark Sa in Gothic script with crown above, almost certainly for Thomas Salter
Slightly tapering cylindrical, with reeded and moulded borders and mid-rib, the scroll handle with cartouche-shaped lower terminal and beaded cut-card upper terminal, the hinged stepped slightly domed cover with volute and chased beaded scroll thumbpiece and shaped lip, the handle prick-engraved N I*I 1708, the lower cartouche later engraved with initials R*H*N, fully marked on body and cover, the handle also with maker's mark
