A QUEEN ANNE SILVER-GILT CHAMBERSTICK
MAKER'S MARK OF FRANCIS GARTHORNE, LONDON, 1702

Plain circular, with ring handle, the waisted and faceted spool form socket with molded rim, engraved on the side with the mirror cypher of Queen Anne within Garter Motto surmounted by Royal crown, marked on side and marked under base with inventory number and scratch weight
4¼in. (10.8cm.) diameter
(10oz., 310gr.)
Provenance
The cypher is that of Queen Anne (1665-1714), who succeeded to the throne of England in 1702. This chamberstick may have been made for use in one of the royal households or, perhaps more likely given the date of the hallmark, it was part of plate issued to a new ambassador.
