A RARE COMPOSITE 'MAXIMILIAN' FULL ARMOUR
Circa 1520
Of bright steel, comprising close-helmet with boldly roped comb and four-pointed 'bellows' visor with two vision and ten ventilation slits, the right side with lifting peg, neck-guard of three lames, gorget of four plates front and rear, rounded breast-plate with movable gussets, back-plate struck with Nuremberg mark, later besagues, spaulders of five lames each, full arm defences with heart-shaped side-wings (one later), mitten gauntlets, skirt of four plates, tassets of three plates, culet of three plates, and full legharness including winged poleyns and articulated sabatons with later spurs, most of the surfaces fluted, the main edges variously roped and plain (minor restorations): on leather-covered dummy with a mail shirt of riveted rings, and on wooden plinth
