A RARE FAMILLE ROSE BOWL AND COVER Underglaze-blue Daoguang seal mark and of the period (1821-1850) With deep rounded sides rising from a straight foot to a flaring rim, enamelled with fruiting and flowering gourds and bamboo growing from the base of the exterior over the rim to the interior below two butterflies, the cover similarly decorated 4¼ in. (10.8 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

Although bowls of this type are known from the Qianlong period onwards, it is rare to find a bowl complete with cover. A Daoguang example with cover is illustrated in Geng Baochang, Ming Qing Ciqi Jianding, Qingdai Bufen, p.145, fig.190, and a pair from the Edward T.
