Lot Essay

This unusual covered vessel formed as a circular box is most likely based on a metal prototype. Several other covered boxes of circular form with spotted resist-glazed decoration are illustrated in the catalogue for the exhibition, Tokubetsu Tenshu Higashi Ajia no Futamono (Special Exhibition of Covered Boxes from East Asia), Japan, 1984, p. 19, figs. 22-21.
