A RARE GUAN-TYPE FACETED VASE
QIANLONG SEAL MARK AND OF THE PERIOD

The square body with faceted angles, supported on a splayed foot, the cylindrical neck applied with a pair of monster-mask ring-handles below the lipped rim, applied overall in a thick, slightly crackled, glaze of bluish-grey tone

Lot Essay

A vase of this form covered in a ge-type glaze bearing a Yongzheng mark was included in the National Palace Museum, Taibei, Special Exhibition, Monochrome Porcelains of the Ch'ing Dynasty, 1981, Catalogue, no. 83; and another decorated in underglaze-blue and enamelled yellow sold in these Rooms, The Imperial Sale, 27 April 1997, lot 67.

The shape is inspired by Xuande prototypes. Two are illustrated in the National Palace Museum, Taibei, Special Exhibition of Hsuan-te Wares, 1980, Catalogue, nos. 6 and 7.
